When it gets to the end of summer and I see how much good food I’ve let go to waste, and how pitiful my herbs look… I feel like such a failure. Yes, I’ve canned a lot and preserved a lot and dehydrated a lot – but look at how much I lost – because I just couldn’t (or didn’t) get to it…
Yes, there were other “fish to fry” and other responsibilities to attend to – but let’s face it – sometimes I was just plain lazy…and it weighs on me and I promise to do better next year. Yep! If the trumpet don’t sound, and Lord willing – I’ll do better next year!
I have experienced that feeling, too, back in the day when I did gardening. But, as it’s been said, let the critters enjoy, recycle (compost bin) and maybe give a “gleaning party” … have your Bible study ladies over to study Ruth and talk about the gleaning and how some harvest was always left in the field to help others. Then, let everyone go out and glean your garden for whatever they want. 🙂
Great idea! I wish I’d thought of it a month ago – my garden is so overgrown now that I’m afraid someone would get lost! LOL! I have been trying to give away hot peppers, but couldn’t find any takers – everything else was really just “sub-par” anyway. All except the okra… I was just lazy there. We do love okra, but it was coming in so slowly that it took over a week to save up enough for a mess! but, I think the rabbits are having fun..
